Imagine It Creative Writing Club
Imagine It is open to children and teenagers aged 7–14 with creative minds looking for somewhere to belong. In worlds of their own creation, members bring dream characters to life—from crime-fighting heroines to dragon-slaying heroes.
Every voice is listened to and every idea is respected. The club’s motto is simple: Stay Curious!
Group one:

Our recipe
Mixed with character soup, spoonfuls of plot thickener, tubs of setting spread, a variety of poetry cajolery, a flash of comic strip, a dash of advertising and a sprinkle of memoir.
Weekly interactive workshops explore story craft, character building, plot development, dialogue and diverse language in a relaxed atmosphere where positive support is always encouraged.
Club member Tom O’Flaherty won first prize in the age 6–10 category of a creative writing competition led by John Boyne and supported by Joe Duffy on Liveline. His story stood out among nearly 6,000 entries—an achievement the Imagine It club remains proud of.
Projects that bring words to life
A different project each term gives young writers new ways to create independently and together.
Observe & imagine
Writers have explored Charleville using all five senses to collect the details needed for a story.
Read & perform
The club has performed original poetry and prose for parents and has been invited to read at Friars’ Gate Theatre.
Invent & persuade
Members have invented wonderfully unusual products, then written radio and television scripts to advertise them.
Write for the stage
The club wrote two puppet shows and the full pantomime This Is No Cinderella, This Is The Cork Fella.
